Pokedex Review #6: Charizard

I’m back finally with the most badass of all Pokemon. The Pokemon who will always be my favorite. The one and only Charizard. As a Charmander guy, that moment when you finally reach Charmeleon evolving into Charizard is one of the highlights of being a Pokemon trainer. You know have one of the biggest badasses in Pokemon history on your side. Serious ass will be kicked when you have a Charizard. I don’t know how many Pokemon I have burned over the years with Flamethrower or Fire Blast. The Elite Four has bitten the dust on many occasions bowing down to me as their Pokemon Master after my Charizard has destroyed them.

It’s no mystery why Charizard is one of the most popular Pokemon in existence. Everything about him is cool.

Remember that card. It was one of the most sought after cards when I was younger. It was all because of that 120 HP and the 100 Fire Spin. He was awesome. I never owned that card, but the thought of having it made made the legend of Charizard grow inside my mind.

It helped to have Pokemon Red. My brother owned the game, but I got the most play out of it. My Charizard destroyed everyone. My love of Pokemon dates back to that Red Version. I managed to catch all 151 Pokemon on there with use of Pokemon Blue, Stadium, Gold, Silver, and Crystal along with trades. Nowadays, I know how to catch all 151 using the glitches in the original games. It’s tough when you are younger.

The best part of Charizard may have been the anime. He was an antihero, and he didn’t really like Ash. I don’t really like Ash. Charizard and I had that in common. He would always come in and kick some ass and then be lazy. That’s my kind of Pokemon. I guess he still appears on the anime sometimes to bail Ash out of trouble.

Charizard will always be my favorite Pokemon. A perfect 10 out of 10. I might even go to 11 for him.

My Chicago Comic Con Experience

August 10, 2013 will go down as one of the greatest days in my life. I went with the Valdizon sisters (Tanya and Cynthia) to Wizard World Chicago Comic Con in Rosemont, Illnois at the Donald E. Stephenson Convention Center. Lot of words in that last sentence. I figured I’d write this facebook note to chronicle my day at the convention.

We got there around 9 a.m. and had our tickets down or whatever. We then stood in our first of many lines of the day. This one was to get inside the convention which opened at 10 a.m. After a long wait, we made our way inside. Tanya and I had a photo op with the some of the cast of Smallville (Michael Rosenbaum, Allison Mack, Aaron Ashmore, and James Marsters). They were all so nice. James Marsters noticed my Green Power Ranger hoodie and told me he used to date the Pink Ranger. I’m jealous. That was my first crush. I actually went to his (James) line for a bit, but I knew he would be doing photo ops for a little bit. I decided to run around a bit to see who was around. I spotted Verne Troyer (who I never ended up talking to), Lita (same as Troyer), Lou Ferrigno (more on him later), and a slew of other talents whose names I forget at the time. I think some random porn stars were around too. I noticed Brandon Routh’s line was short and got in it. I got a nice picture with him and a good autograph. He’s a pretty cool guy, and we talked about both being Brandons. Good times.

I went with the Valdizons to Michael Rosenbaum next. He’s probably the funniest man I’ve ever met. He signed my Smallville Season 10 Blu Ray which I was happy about and then he plugged his new movie. His movie is called Back in the Day and it sounds pretty funny. He directed and wrote it so I will support it because Rosey is the man. We even talked about Sorority Boys for a bit. Jon Heder was at the booth next to him and I failed to talk to him. Freaking idiot! Gosh!

My mind is blanking on what I did next. I recall seeing Ralph Macchio from Karate Kid at some point. I failed to talk to him too. I really need more time at these things. I got in line for Jason David Frank after that. I’ve been amped to meet Jason David Frank all my life. I couldn’t wait. I should mention that there were these two really awesome Ninjetti Power Rangers costumes in front of me in line. They were custom made and one was even a Green Ranger Ninjetti which never existed in Power Rangers. The guy was pretty cool who made them. JDF showed up after a little wait, and we all went wild. He made videos of us chanting his name and yelling “It’s Morphin Time” and “Dragonzord”. It was a lot of fun. I took a picture with him there and got my Saba Sword and Green Ranger hoodie signed. Apparently the person who voiced Dil Pickles (Rugrats) and Timmy Turner (Fairly Oddparents) was at the booth next to JDF. I wasn’t aware who Tara Strong was at the time, but I do now. Someoen really needs to inform me these things!

I met Milo Ventimiglia after that. I talked to him about working for Stallone. We need to bring him back for Rocky VII! I went to the Michael Rosenbaum Q&A after this with the Valdizon sisters. I couldn’t get enough of Rosey at this Con. His Q&As are the best. He’s all over the room calling on people and making them do things. I even got to ask him a question about John Glover’s magnificent mane of hair. My girlfriend also got to ask him a question. Points for both of us!

We headed back to the James Marsters booth after that. It’s a very long wait at his booth because he likes talking to everyone which is great. Such a cool guy and he kept telling me how hot the Pink Ranger was. He also gave me piece of his chocolate cupcake. Yes, I ate off of James Marsters’ cupcake. He also did a nice thing for Tanya and Cynthia’s mom who is in Uganda. He let them tape a video of him speaking to her. I love his fake British accent! I should also mention the Jason Priestly booth was next to his. I kept thinking I should go meet him, but I never did. James promoted his band while he was there. His son was with him, and he’s in the band. The band guys seemed pretty cool. I’m looking forward to hearing their music. We also stopped by the Allison Mack booth after that. She’s one of the nicest people you will ever meet. She’s so pretty. I even told her that. I couldn’t help it.

I headed over to the Jason David Frank Q&A after that. He’s always very entertaining taking pictures of everybody and trying to start chants. I didn’t learn too much from the Q&A, but I had a blast. He called Johnny Yong Bosch on his phone at one point. JDF is such a jokester and loves having fun with his fans. I can appreciate that. I bow to his greatness.

I met Zachary Quinto after getting back from the JDF Q&A. I told him he has nice eyebrows. Someone really needs to give me cuecards of questions to ask these people. I wonder how many of them thought I was a complete idiot. He said he got his eyebrows from his parents if you were curious. I spotted Dennis Rodman at one point. I don’t remember when. I think it was actually after I met JDF, but I just remembered now. I headed over to the Aaron Ashmore booth after this. We talked about his brother some and Smallville. All the Smallville people are good people. They probably all think I’m a weirdo, but I can accept that.

I got in line for my photo op with Jason David Frank in the Green Ranger costume. This was a dream come true posing with JDF dressed as the Green Ranger. He was one of my biggest influences and icons in my childhood. I can’t describe how awesome it was. I did my silly pose and he looked all badass in the suit. Perfect! I told him, “May the power protect you.” It was a proud day for this longtime Power Rangers fan.

I decided to meet those Weasleys after that. James and Oliver Phelps have real British accents which was awesome. I asked them if they get confused who is who in the pictures sometimes. They say they can depending on the photo effects done to them. Lou Ferrigno was across the way after them. He has a really big hand. He didn’t seem to be in the best mood at the time though. Maybe he doesn’t like when people don’t spend money on him. Wil Wheaton on the other hand was pretty cool. He even gave those Valdizons a free autograph. I wasn’t that lucky, but I did get to ask him a question about who would win between Captain Picard and Sheldon Cooper. He made the smart decision with Picard. Once again I prove I need handwritten questions beforehand.

All in all, it was a pretty successful day. I did miss out on CM Punk (line was long and I went to a Q&A during that), The Shield (Never spotted them at all), Stan Lee(I tried to see him but the line was blocking him), Linda Blair (I was in line but I had to make my photo op with JDF), Michael Shannon (Zod wasn’t there too long), and Robert Rodriguez (his lines were always long). Next year I will try to schedule and plan things out better. You get caught up in the moment easily while there. So many people in costumes and so many different places to go. My mind was going crazy. I clung to the Smallville people and Jason David Frank since they were so nice.

I spotted many great people today, and I’m ready to do it again next year. I had a blast. It’s late now. I’m back home. Hocus Pocus finished on ABC Family when I started writing this. Some crappy infomercial is on now. I should go to bed. Night night!
